More About Me

Barry Sullivan, Managing Broker/SRES Washington & Oregon

I initially began my career in real estate as a consultant to public agencies in 1992 and since then have negotiated hundreds of residential and commercial real estate transactions. My initial role, which lead to my real estate career, was as a negotiator of property rights for public transportation projects. This experience is where I learned about the idiosyncrasies of real estate contracts, title issues, financing, zoning, permitting, negotiations and the appraisal valuation process. My training, guidance and instruction was directly from subject matter experts i.e. attorneys, appraisers, title experts and engineers to name a few. This experience has prepared me well for a career as a Realtor and gives me a clear advantage over my competitors, since most real estate agents lack any in depth training.

I decided to become a Realtor for a variety of reasons. First, I have a passion for home ownership and learned the value of real estate for investment purposes at an early age, having bought my first home in my 20s. In addition, I have purchased and renovated several rental properties of my own. This gave me hands on experience and knowledge of managing properties as a landlord. In addition, I learned about building products/materials, cutting tile, laying drywall, hanging fixtures, the construction process, home decor and staging. Nearly every home I have owned has appreciated in value, but more importantly, this experience has made me become a better Realtor. My transition from real estate consulting to residential real estate as a career was natural and a great fit for me personally. In addition, my clients truly appreciate the knowledge I pass on to them from my experience and training.

My objective is to always protect the interests of my clients and get them the best price and/or terms possible. Educating my clients is also a goal so that the process of buying/selling is understandable and stress free. I take pride in my ability to acknowledge my client's needs and listen to their concerns, along with being responsive and easily accessible. I believe in the "win win" approach to negotiating and always strive to provide superior service to my clients, which at times includes referring them to my network of industry associates/partners, such as contractors, property managers, home inspectors and lenders. My relationship goes beyond the closing and my clients know that they can contact me anytime for advice and consultation.
